breath

lover of stars
your hair is thin and golden
i can trace the perfect stillness
of your smile in sand or dust
i pour staples bent
and twisted
broken in the mighty jaws
raining into a recycling bin
where they sleep

i pull a paper clip from the belly of the beast

it sighs toner and cools quickly
with its thorax exposed to the
cool copyroom air

you left me looking into my eyes
the sun rising beside me
i was naked
and drugged by your hunger
i slept until you were gone

you said you wished
you could have given
me something before you left
i would have settled for a kiss
